Summer vacation starts this weekend and Im already practicing the kids menu. I only fry once a year but on this case I might have to make an exception because the little ones love them. Even my very carnivore husband went after these veggie treats.
Of course you can make them with your choice, hot dogs, bratwurst, knockwurst, chorizo, etc... get creative! ...
Very easy to make! you can also get creative with the mustard or dipping sauce. My children preference was simple homemade honey mustard that I let them mix and as you can imagine it was more like honey sauce with a bit of mustard ;)
I know this does not look like a corn dog! I was left with enough mix to make more v-doggies but since I didn't have any more veggie dogs I used my poetic license in the kitchen and created this improvised corn-doughnuts?! or chocolate-corn-donuts?!
I fried some spoonful drops of the left over corn mix and placed them on paper towel for few seconds to absorb the excess of oil. Still hot, rolled the donuts on sugar and after they cool off, drizzled some nutella over this little beauties.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of yellow cornmeal
- 1 Cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 Cup of sugar
- 4 Tablespons of baking powder
- 1 Egg
- 1 Cup of milk (I used soymilk)
- 2 packages of veggie dogs (8 count) or any sausage of preference.
Combine all the ingredients. Pat dry the dogs with paper towel and insert wooden sticks on end. Preheat the oil. Dip and roll the dogs in the batter. Deep fry few at a time for around 3 min or until golden. Drain on paper towel.
enjoy!
